Volunteers needed:
Baronscourt Surgery is involved in teaching medical and nursing students which requires willing patients to help.

Baronscourt Surgery is a dedicated teaching and training practice. Dr Lucy Thomson is the lead Trainer for 2007/08. Dr Thomson alternates this role with Dr Ryan.
Our GP trainees (previously registrars) are fully qualified doctors who have a broad experience having spent several years working in hospitals. You are able to book appointments with the Trainee in a similar way to the other doctors. Sometimes these consultations are recorded purely for teaching purposes within the Practice, but your permission will always be asked and you will always be free to consult in private if you prefer.
Since August 2006 the Practice has had Foundation Doctors (FY2) on 4 month placements training with us. Foundation Doctors, like GP Trainees, are fully qualified Doctors who want to gain experience in General Practice. Dr Bronte-Stewart is the FY2 Doctors' mentor. You are able to book appointments with the Foundation Doctor in the usual way.
Baronscourt Surgery is also a teaching practice. The Practice is one of only 18 practices in Edinburgh which teach 2nd year students. We also teach 5th year students, who rotate on a 4 week placement normally. This means that we deal with the whole spectrum of medical education from the most basic introduction to patient care, to the stage when our GP Trainees are ready to go out and practice as fully qualified GPs.
In some other countries junior doctors are taught using actors and computer simulations so that they only come face to face with real people when they are already qualified! In the UK, and this practice, we believe that the best teaching comes from patients themselves. We need volunteers all the time to achieve and desperately need your help and co-operation.
