Our GPs

Dr F Owen George, MB Chb (Edin 1977) MRCGP, DRCOG

Dr Owen George joined the surgery in 1982 and became Senior Partner in 1999, following the retirement of Dr John Roberts. Dr George is involved in the running of the baby clinics and minor surgery clinics.  Along with Dr Bronte-Stewart, Dr George is responsible for the 2nd and 5th year student teaching at the surgery and is the course organiser for the ICP (2nd year student teaching) within the Medical School at Edinburgh University. His clinical interests include paediatrics and orthopaedic medicine. Outside surgery life Dr George is a member of the Society of High Constables of Edinburgh and is Past Surgeon and a past Ward Captain. Dr George has an interest in ancient history and archaeology, and very occasionally repairs old aeroplanes with the Aircraft Preservation Society of Scotland at East Fortune.

 

Dr Carola Bronte-Stewart, MB Chb (Edin 1979) DRCOG

Dr Bronte-Stewart is a Partner in the practice and joined the practice in 1984 having qualified from Edinburgh University in 1979. Dr Bronte-Stewart enjoys all types of general practice and is involved in the 2nd and 5th Year student teaching with Dr George and is also responsible for ‘house-keeping’ duties and has a responsibility for staff welfare and appraisal within the practice. Outside surgery life Dr Bronte-Stewart enjoys singing, Scottish country dancing, gardening and walking.

 

Dr Lucy Thomson MB ChB (Lond 1990) MRCGP, DRCOG, DFFP

Dr Lucy Thomson is a Partner and GP Trainer in the practice. Dr Thomson joined the Practice in April 1996 having qualified in London in 1990. She has a keen interest in Women’s Health and psychiatry and is involved in running the Baby Clinics and Minor Surgery clinics.  Outside surgery life Dr Thomson enjoys horse riding but spends most of her time with her family and trying to think of new ways to keep her young son and daughter amused.

 

Dr Michael F Ryan MB ChB (Edin 1987) MRCGP, DRCOG, DFFP

Dr Mike Ryan joined the Partnerhsip in October 1999. As well as being a GP Trainer and Complaints Officer, Dr Ryan is also the Clinical Lead for the North East Edinburgh LHP. Dr Ryan assists with the running of the Tuesday baby clinics with Dr George and Dr Thomson and is involved with any minor surgery clinics that are held here.  His clinical interests include Minor Surgery. Outside the surgery Dr Ryan enjoys spending time with his family and has a keen interest in rugby and football.

 

Dr Fiona Cremona MB ChB (Glas 1987)

Dr Cremona joined the team in 2001 as the GP Retainer. She was appointed as an Assistant GP in September 2006.

   

Dr Nichola Rennie MB ChB (Edin 1989)

Dr Rennie is our GP Retainer and joined the team in October 2006.

 

Administrative Staff

Ms Lorraine Black - Practice Manager (ILM HMC 2009) 

Lorraine joined the practice in June 2009, after undertaking the role of Assistant Practice Manager at Bellevue Medical Centre, for over 3 years.  Lorraine started as a medical receptionist in 1995 working her way up to Management level having completed her ILM (Institute of Leadership & Management) course, Certificate In Management in June 2009.  Lorraine is responsible for the Business Management and Administration of the practice including the GP contract. Miss Clair Iannarelli - Practice Administrator

Clair joined the Practice in May 2006 as a medical receptionist. Clair completed her course in Business Administration in April 2009 and is now the Practice Administrator. Clair works alongside the Practice Manager and is responsible for the daily administration of the Practice including the GP contract.

 

Mrs Georgette Davidson - Reception Manager/Secretary/P.A

Georgette joined the Practice in February 2010 coming from Bellevue Medical Centre where she was Reception Supervisor.  Georgette has 20 years experience in General Practice and started as a Medical Receptionist at Colinton Surgery, she also worked part-time in the Out of Hours Service for many years.  Georgette was promoted to Manager of Out of Hours Service in South West Edinburgh until the transition to NHS 24 in 2004. Georgette is now Reception Manager and is responsible for the daily management of the Reception Area and the management of the reception team. Georgette is also the PA/secretary within the Practice.

 

Mrs Kathryn Ross - Senior Receptionist

Kathryn joined the practice in 1990. In the absence of the Reception Manager, Kathryn is responsible for the day to day running of the reception. and the supervision of receptionists.

Practice Nursing Team

Karen Osborne

Karen joined the team in 2005 and is our Senior Practice Nurse, responsible for overseeing the Practice Nursing Team. Karen previously specialised in critical care for over 7 years, working in Intensive Care and High Dependency Units throughout Scotland and Australia. Her current duties are focused on the care of patients with long term conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart disease, hypertension, stroke and diabetes. She offers well woman services including cervical screening and contraceptive advice, and is also available for travel clinics offering advice and vaccinations for those traveling overseas.

 

Vanessa Erskine-MacLean

Vanessa joined the team in 2007 and is our Practice Nurse after a thirteen year career in ENT/Head and Neck Surgery. Vanessa is studying to obtain further skills and knowledge in managing chronic diseases, family planning, travel health, men's and women's health with General Practice. Vanessa is currently responsible for wound care and management, suture and clip removal, cervical smears, ear irrigation, assisting with minor surgery, blood pressure monitoring - prevention and reduction/healthy living advice and smoking cessation advice.

 

Steven Bridgman

Steven joined us in 2009 and is our Healthcare Assistant after 2years as an Auxilliary Nurse at Leith Community Treatment Centre. Steven previously worked at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, A&E department for 7 Years. Steven carries out nursing duties including venepuncture (blood taking), blood Pressure checks and new patient checks.

 

District Nursing Team

Our District Nursing Team are based in the surgery and are led by Lori Hall with Anne Alexander, Katrina Ewart, Julie Jamieson and Joanna Eldrett.

The district nursing team provide specialist nursing care for housebound patients. The district nurses will assess, plan and provide the most appropriate and highest standard of nursing care in the patient's home.

The service can be accessed 24 hours every day of the year, as follows:

Health Visiting Team

Our Health Visiting team is based within the Practice. The team offers support to families with children under the age of 5.

 

Other Attached Staff

Evelyn Henderson & Kirsty Ball

Evelyn and Kirsty are Community Psychiatric Nurses (CPN's). Patients are sometimes seen at home as well as in the surgery. Kirsty is responsible for elderly patients.

 

Lindsay Good

Lindsay is our Community Midwife. Lindsay provides various maternity services here at the Surgery and can be seen on a Tuesday by appointment arranged via the Leith Community Treatment Centre on 0131 536 6450
